Description

THE BIG PROJECT 1997-1999 The Parker County Genealogical Society
There used to be a very active group called the Parker County Genealogical Society. Their final BIG project was to document burials in all known cemeteries in Parker County, as well as a few in Tarrant, Wise and Hood Counties which are located near Parker County. It took a number of volunteers from 1997-1999 to accomplish that mission. They produced 4 volumes. Volume I lists readings in southern Parker County generally described as South of US 180. Volume II is for City of Weatherford cemeteries. Volume III lists readings for cemeteries in the NW quadrant basically on a line from Springtown, South to US 180, then West. Volume IV lists readings in the NE quadrant from East of Springtown, South to US 180, then East. There are approximately 46,000 names listed in all four volumes. In addition to actual tombstone readings, the books include burials obtained from obituaries, funeral home markers, and from family descendants. Evlyn Broumley, who basically founded the Genealogy Room at the Weatherford Public Library, was a prime asset for the project.
